TIME FOR THE TRI-ASSOCIATION MID-YEAR CONFERENCE

Tis the time to get ready for the Tri-Association Mid-Year. It is being held at the Radisson Hotel in Nashua, NH. It will be starting on Thursday evening and continue until Sunday mid-morning. February 18-21, 2010. What a time has been had by all in attendance for the first one that was held. What a better way to meet fellow Moose members both L.O.O.M. and W.O.T.M. There are meetings, break out educational sessions and a lot more to come. The dinner being held on Saturday evening is a Pirate Theme, bring your eye patches and other accessories. We intend on having the time of our lives, so come on up and have a great time. The training sessions are being held on Saturday morning. Don’t miss out as all Officers will need to attend these classes eventually. There will be Officer Training Sessions scheduled for the beginning of the new Moose year on May 1, 2010. Check this newsletter or the Association Web Site for more information. Moosepages.org and look for Mass/RI. Officers Take care of yourselves this year and enjoy all the Moose has to offer. Check with your Lodge, Chapter, Council of Higher Degrees and Moose Legion for upcoming events and celebrations. Thank you everyone for your patience.

Here it is February already. Ground Hog day is right around the corner marking the halfway point through winter. It also marks that there are only 25 days till the second Tri Association Conference. The date is February 25-28. If you haven’t registered yet you need to get on it. This is going to be a great time to get together with our Moose Brothers and Co-Workers from all over New England for some fraternal fun and learning. Every lodge should be represented by their Board of Officers as well as bringing along members that have never been to a conference before. Our first year was a huge success and there is no reason the second time around will be anything less. Our official visitors are Gary Urwiler the Superintendent of Education at Mooseheart and Mooseheart graduate. Rick McKiness enjoyed himself so much last year he is coming back to talk to us about our CAPS program and would like to meet with your lodge’s CAPS chairman. Of course Rick will be here to answer any questions you may have about the hall rental
insurance too. The WOTM’s official visitor is Olivia “Libby” Schmidt.

This year’s Mid Year we will again have a kids room available for our members with children. As in the past there will be plenty of fun activities for our kids all provided at no cost to the parents. Thurs night there will be a meet and greet barbecue with our official visitors. Friday afternoon will be our opening sessions and Friday evening will be the 5/25 club party. Sat we are trying something a little different. Instead of parading speaker after speaker in front of you we are going to hold breakout sessions from the officer training program. We are offering a breakout for Governor’s, Treasurer’s, Trustee’s, committee chairman/members, and Administrators. Even if you are not an officer please feel free to attend one of these training sessions. I guarantee you will learn something you did not know before. Sat afternoon we will be providing you a wide range of interesting information. Sat night is our awards dinner banquet. The theme this year is pirates. I’d like to see everyone dressed up as a pirate and have a great time. The weekend is about learning, fun, and fraternalism. We will be giving out awards to our Moose, Rookie, Co-Worker, Novice, and Moose Legionnaire of the year awards and we will have the march of checks. On Sun morning we will wrap up a great weekend and head back home with the knowledge and fun we gained over the weekend ready to share with our members at our next general membership meeting.

This month my topic is member retention. I will be speaking about it at the convention. I have been calling members from every lodge that let their dues expire over the past year to see why they decided not to renew their membership. I will be sharing my findings with you at the convention. I’ve had some interesting conversations with members that let their dues expire. During these financially tough times every lodge Governor must ensure they have an active membership chairman that is reaching out to your members that have let their dues expire. Every effort should be made to find out why the member let their dues expire and to find out what you as the leader of your lodge can do to prevent this from happening to others on the bubble. As Governor you need to know what your members are looking for from their membership as well as making sure there are activities tailored for every member of every age group. If you are catering to one group in your lodge you are doomed to failure and you most likely have a poor retention rate. Reach out to your members. If they need a hand, give it too them. Make sure they are always greeted with a smile and a warm hello. Make them feel wanted and appreciated. Ask them to volunteer. Get them involved and do everything you can to keep them involved. Your survival depends on it.

Finally I’d like to thank all the lodges and chapters that are participating with sending birthday cards and presents to our boys in the New England Home. It is working out great. You are helping every boy feel special and letting them know that we think about them year round. We are looking again this summer provide another 2 week whirlwind vacation throughout New England for our boys. If your lodge wants to be host for a day of fun for the boys please let me know.
